The long awaited Submarine fibre landed in the East African Coast with landing points in Dar es Salaam -
(Tanzania) and Mombasa - (Kenya) amongst others in July 2009.
Africa Online Kenya announced the introduction of a new service plan. Instead of limiting customer's
access speeds, the new plan ensures that all the clients enjoy the sub marine fibre experience i.e in the
form of high access speeds of up to 1Mbps. These speeds allow transmission of all protocols, thus
enabling services like movie and music downloads, peer to peer applications, Skype and other Voice
over IP services use, gaming and much more. The new plan commenced on 1st September 2009.
According to AfOL Kenya General Manager, Ken Munyi (pictured left),
"From the tests done, analysis and early feedback, we are confident that
this plan will deliver greater value than previous service plans. I believe
they are better than any other offering in the market". Mr. Munyi added
that the new plan is the most equitable way to serve AfOL's customers.
"The new service plan has been well accommodated by most of our
customers and is deemed as the most equitable way to treat our customers yet". He adds.
"The Customer Relations and Call Centre departments have received a lot of enquiries about the new
plan and the same have been well handled. We have also conceptualized a package for the cyber cafes
and we have come up with a package for them that will offer unlimited bandwidth with limited speeds",
adds Alwiya Noor, Customer Relations Business Development Manager, AfOL Kenya.
AfOL Tanzania and AfOL Ghana are set to launch the same in their respective markets.
